Reverend Pathias Hlahla, a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church (UMC), is set to launch his book, “The Story behind the MUMC Pin Design,” in October this year at the District Office in Rusape. The book explores the history and symbolism of the Mubvuwi we United Methodist Church (MUMC) pin, a topic that sparked intense debate within the organization.

The MUMC pin features a slanted cross and a crown, which have been the subject of much speculation and debate. According to Rev Hlahla’s research, the pin design dates back to 1887, predating colonial rule. The slanted cross represents the challenges of life, while the crown symbolizes the crown of life that believers receive at the end of their journey.

Rev. Hlahla’s passion for MUMC began in 1978 when he was a youth member. Over the years, he served the church in various capacities, including as an MUMC advisor. His research on the pin’s design was sparked by a heated debate within the organization, and he presented his findings at the 2019 MUMC Dumba in Rusape.

“The Story Behind the MUMC Pin Design” is priced at $5 USD, and Rev. Hlahla has pledged to surrender the copyright to MUMC once he recovers his production costs. The book aims to inform and preserve MUMC heritage, and its launch is eagerly anticipated by members of the organization.

Rev. Hlahla has also written another book, “Following Christ and Becoming Fishers of Men (Lessons on the MUMC),” which explains sections of the MUMC constitution and provides lessons for members. This book will be published soon, further contributing to the understanding and growth of MUMC.
